Jacobs is seeking a Mid-Level Java Developer for the Alexandria/Herndon office (team splits time between both offices with one day remote per week). Duties will include:

Troubleshoot data related problems for end users

Deliver technical deliverables/activities according to schedule and ensure quality of the products.

Technical analysis and documentation of complex functions in the system.

Involvement in all phases of software development life cycle with analysis, design, development, configuration management, implementation, integration, testing, debugging, production maintenance.

Working with the infrastructure and tier 1 support teams to respond to and resolve issues

Generate complex database reports and queries for the client with particular emphasis on performance tuning.

Designing robust architectural solutions and being able to setup/build and deploy complex J2EE applications

Mentoring and supporting junior team members to support troubleshooting of production issues, and maintenance of web-based software


US Citizens or Green Card Holders only – must be able to obtain a public trust clearance

BS degree from an accredited college or university in a related scientific or engineering discipline and three (3) to five (5) years of progressive, relevant experience, or any equivalent combination of education, experience, training, and certifications.

Minimum Qualifications:

4 years of Java experience developing J2EE applcations

Desired Qualifications:

Strong knowledge and project experience in Java Technologies like J2EE, JSP, Servlets, JDBC, Spring, Struts, maven and ant build tool, XSLT and XML.

Working knowledge of deploying applications on App servers preferably WebLogic, GlassFish and Tomcat

Experience with Database design including Stored Procedures, DML and DDL tasks on Sybase database.

Sound RDBMS concepts and experienced in designing and coding stored procedures using SQL

Experience with Source control and configuration management using SVN, Rational ClearCase and ClearQuest.

Working knowledge of UNIX shell scripting.

Experience with tools like Rational Rose, Eclipse, Tiny MCE and agile tools

Work Environment:

General Office environment. The work environment is fast-paced and sometimes involves extreme deadline pressures. The nature of the work requires a high degree of teamwork and cooperation with other members of the staff as well as individuals across the Company and Customers.

Equipment & Machines:

General office equipment including PC/laptop, Fax, Copiers, Shredder, Printers, Telephone, and other miscellaneous office equipment.


Attendance is critical at all times. Must be able to work a 40-hour workweek, normally Monday through Friday. However, times and days may vary depending on business requirements. Needs to be available to work overtime during critical peaks and be available to meet last minute requests for overtime should the situation occur.
