Position Description
This position will provide direct radar system/software engineering support to the NUWC Code 34 EW Team. Tasking will include all phases of radar system development that include research, assessment, design, implementation, integration, and validation/verification; technical leadership and the opportunity to mentor others; and, direct collaboration with customers and subcontractors. The candidate should be able to demonstrate good teamwork and willingness to learn and accept new tasks / challenges. This position requires the use of problem-solving skills along with a strong understanding of radar system technology to deliver business value to our customer.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct research, design, test and evaluation of naval surveillance radars and navigation systems
- Support all phases of system development, including integration, validation and verification of radar capabilities and electronic components
- Research of modern radar system, software, hardware, and information assurance requirements
- Technical risk assessment of third-party radar designs and architectures
- Analysis of modern radar interfaces, message protocols, and high-speed switch networks
- Performance analysis of antenna equipment and digital signal processing algorithms
- Ability to design and implement within a team environment with minimal direction
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of radar engineers and subject matter experts
- Communicate regularly with customers and project team lead to ensure effective work partnerships
Requirements / Skills
- Prefer MS in Engineering or Computer Science with concentration in antenna / radar coursework
- 5+ years of relevant experience in radar systems engineering, design, analysis, and/or test
- Understands fundamental radar principles and has demonstrated success in developing complex electromagnetic systems
- Familiar with modern systems and software engineering processes
- Experience collaborating with highly technical customers on system development projects
- Demonstrated success on radar-related system and software development projects
- Effective written and verbal skills
- Able to work and thrive in both individual and team-based development environments
- Position requires US Citizenship and the ability to obtain a Secret-level security clearance with the US Government
Additional Skills of Interest (not required)
- Prefer 10-15 years of experience in radar systems engineering, design, analysis, and/or test
- Expertise in radar system components, operating curves, design parameters, performance trades, and propagation models
- Expertise in detection processing, tracking algorithms, and common ARPA functions
- Experience designing, operating, and maintaining S-band and X-band radar systems, specifically on naval surface ships, submarines, or other mobile military platforms
- Experience conducting data analysis in MATLAB on theoretical sensor models, synthetic data sets, and live measurements
- Experience integrating Radar with commercial or DoD Navigation Systems like VMS
- Experience in Linux frameworks, modern message protocols, network architectures, and virtual computing
- Experience collaborating with Government agencies on tactical software development projects
- Exposure to information assurance (IA) and cybersecurity technology
- Understanding of DoD engineering design practices
