Bachelor of Science in Informatics

Interested in smart computing that goes beyond hardware and software? Are you a “big picture” kind of person? Have you considered earning a flexible, online degree in informatics? The collaborative online Bachelor of Science in Informatics (from Indiana’s – and the nation’s – first informatics school) would be a perfect fit for you! You can change lives and make an impact through technology.

In this program, you’ll build strong technical skills while also gaining an understanding of how we use technology to communicate, work, heal, play, and solve problems. This program focuses on the social impact of computing, how people and technology connect and work together. If you care about technology and other fields – like business, science, and art – informatics is your ticket to a customized computing education. Even if you’re not known as a computer whiz or if you’ve never even taken a computer class, it’s okay! We’ll show you the ropes starting on day one. And when you graduate? You’ll be geared up and ready for careers in one of the hottest, best paying, and most exciting fields out there!

Informatics encourages and facilitates the process of collecting, cultivating, and organizing information digitally so that it can be better utilized by businesses, organizations, and individuals. It teaches us how to put information technology to work in order to solve complex problems like privacy, security, healthcare, education, poverty, and challenges in our environment.

As a student in this program, you will study how people interact with information technology and how information technology shapes our relationships, our organizations, and our world.

How does the online program work?

The online B.S. in Informatics is jointly offered by six IU campuses: East, IUPUI, Kokomo, Northwest, South Bend, and Southeast. You will be assigned to a “home” campus, or campus of enrollment, but you can take online classes from any of these campuses to increase your options and shorten your time to complete your degree. IU Kokomo will apply the credits you earn toward your B.S.
